Building a custom pool is a major project. We make the process clear, structured, and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. No surprises. No guesswork.
We visit your property, walk the yard, and have a real conversation about what you want. Not a sales pitch. We talk about pool shape and size, depth, features like spas and water features, where the equipment goes, how your family uses the backyard, and what your budget looks like. By the end, you will know if we are the right builder for your project, and we will know if the project is a good fit for our schedule.
Timeline: 1 to 2 hours on site
Based on your consultation, we create a custom pool design with detailed engineering plans. This includes the pool dimensions, depth profile, equipment placement, plumbing layout, and structural engineering. You review the design, request any revisions, and approve the final plan before we move forward. Nothing is built until you are completely satisfied with the design.
Timeline: 1 to 3 weeks depending on design complexity
We handle the entire permitting process with your local building department. This includes preparing and submitting all required documents, engineering plans, site surveys, and fence or barrier compliance plans. In Oakland and Macomb County, permit processing typically takes 2 to 4 weeks. We coordinate with all utility companies to locate underground lines before any digging begins.
Timeline: 2 to 4 weeks for permit approval
This is where the project gets real. Our crew excavates the pool site to the exact specifications of the approved design, including all depth transitions, benches, steps, and spa areas. We manage soil removal, grading, and site access to minimize disruption to your yard. Because Easton Pools is backed by Liora Works, a licensed excavation contractor, we handle this phase ourselves rather than subbing it out. That means tighter coordination and fewer delays.
Timeline: 1 to 3 days depending on pool size and site conditions
A steel rebar framework is installed throughout the excavated pool shell to provide structural reinforcement. This is what gives a concrete or gunite pool its strength and longevity. While the steel is being set, plumbing lines for returns, main drains, skimmers, and any water features are run and pressure tested. Electrical conduit for lighting, pumps, heaters, and automation controls is roughed in. A municipal inspection is scheduled before the next phase.
Timeline: 1 to 2 weeks
The concrete or gunite mixture is sprayed at high pressure over the steel framework, creating a dense, seamless pool shell. Gunite uses a dry mix with water added at the nozzle, which produces a stronger, denser structure than poured concrete. The shell is then hand-finished to the correct contours and left to cure. During the curing period, the shell is watered daily to ensure proper strength development.
Timeline: 1 day for application, 7 to 14 days for curing
Waterline tile is installed around the perimeter of the pool. Coping stones are set along the pool edge to create a clean, finished transition between the pool and the surrounding deck. The interior surface finish is then applied. Standard options include white plaster, colored plaster, pebble finish, or quartz aggregate. Each option offers different aesthetics, texture, and longevity. Your selection is finalized during the design phase.
Timeline: 1 to 2 weeks
All pool equipment is installed and connected, including the pump, filter, heater, salt system or chlorinator, and automation controls. The pool is filled with water, the system is started, and the water chemistry is balanced. We walk you through the complete operation of your pool: how to run the equipment, how to maintain water chemistry, and what to expect during the initial plaster curing process. Then you swim.
Timeline: 3 to 5 days for equipment, fill, and startup
From the day we break ground to the day you swim. Design and permitting add 4 to 6 weeks before construction begins. We build weather contingency into every timeline and communicate any adjustments immediately.
You receive photo updates and progress reports at every major milestone. You always know where the project stands without having to ask.
From consultation through startup, you work with one person who knows your project inside and out. No getting passed around between departments.
Your contract specifies exactly what is included. If anything changes during construction, we discuss it with you before proceeding. No unexpected invoices.
Backed by Liora Works, a licensed excavation contractor. We handle the dig ourselves instead of subbing it out, which means better coordination and fewer scheduling conflicts.
A custom concrete or gunite pool typically takes 8 to 14 weeks from excavation to completion. The total project timeline including design, permitting, and construction is usually 12 to 20 weeks depending on design complexity, permit processing times, and weather conditions.
No. While we welcome homeowners to observe the process, you do not need to be present during construction. We provide regular photo updates and progress reports so you always know where the project stands.
Easton Pools handles the entire permitting process. We prepare and submit all required documents, coordinate with your local building department, and schedule all required inspections throughout construction.
Light rain typically does not affect the construction timeline. However, heavy rain can delay excavation and gunite application. We build weather contingency into every project timeline and communicate any adjustments immediately.
